Lee's Summit teen identified as victim in fatal wreck

Independence police on Monday identified an 18-year-old who died Sunday in a crash.

Nathan E. Preston of Lee’s Summit died in the wreck as he was driving a Honda Civic and lost control, leaving Interstate 70 near Phelps Road. It was reported that Preston and the driver of a Ford Escort were weaving in and out of traffic at about 100 mph between Blue Ridge Boulevard and Phelps Road.

According to police, Preston tried to pass the other driver and lost control. Preston, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car and declared dead at the scene.

The second driver, a 22-year-old man from Independence, was arrested and remains in custody, Sgt. John Passiglia said in a written statement.

I love her with all my heart. She is truely my best friend. Shes never back stabbed me....she is always there when I need her. She will have my back when ever I need it.
